Ford Motor Co (F.N) and South Korean battery maker SK Innovation (096770.KS) on Thursday announced they will form a battery joint venture in North America to support the No. 2 U.S. automaker s electric vehicle rollout.
The companies said they have signed a memorandum of understanding for the formation of the venture, called BlueOvalSK. Reuters on Wednesday reported plans for the joint venture. read more

Officials hope the change will help fill thousands of open positions that are available across Metro Detroit.
All seven of the state’s Republican U.S. House members wrote a letter to Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Monday urging a halt to the extra payment, which is on top of maximum state benefits of $362 per week.
They said the benefits incentivize people who are unemployed to not return to work. The work-search requirement was waived starting in March 2020. Claimants will have to conduct at least one work-search activity for each week they certify for benefits.

The union representing workers at Chile s Escondida copper mine, the world s largest, said on Wednesday it was preparing for a lengthy strike if owner BHP (BHP.AX) did not drop a historically awful attitude towards its labour force to reach a fair and equitable deal in looming contract talks.
In its first written comments ahead of the talks due to start in June, the union said it was preparing a contract proposal to put to members. It said it was also building a contingency fund through extra levies paid by members to provide them with financial support in the event of a strike.
